Pilates is a form of exercise that is practiced worldwide, renowned for its emphasis on strengthening the body's core muscles. Created by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's, it has evolved into a structured physical fitness system that focuses on deliberate movements, controlled breathing, and designed a programmed sequence that is tailored to each individual’s needs.
The six principles of Pilates are:
1. Breathing
2. Concentration of the mind
3. Centering with core strength
4. Control of movement
5. Precision
6. Flow and elegant movement
Pilates embodies the concept of a mind-body connection, developed to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and balance, while also improving postural alignment and promoting mental relaxation. Precise and intentional movements of the whole body like strengthening, stretching, or toning routines, correct the posture and spinal alignment, while reducing stress on internal joints. Pilates promotes flexibility, strong abdominal muscles, varied breathing techniques, lean muscle mass, and body awareness.
Almost anyone! Pilates is suited for a wide range of fitness levels and capabilities. It can help you recover from an injury, manage diseases like osteoarthritis, or simply enhancing your flexibility and athleticism.
